The History of J.C. Marklin & Daughter, Inc
J.C. Marklin & Daughter, Inc. was incorporated in August 1980 as J.C. Marklin, Inc. The business was a small service corporation providing manual bookkeeping services for businesses in Manhattan. In November 1980 we purchased our first computer system (an Apple) and converted our customers to computer. Over the years the client base has been extremely varied, but has maintained a strong involvement in New York Restaurants. The founder of the company is Janice Carnes Marklin. Ms. Marklin has been interested in business since working with her father Earl L. Carnes, Sr., who also was an entrepreneur as one of the owners of of D & J Press Co, Inc. of North Tonawanda, New York, manufacturers of presses for bailing scrap metal and automobiles. A graduate of the University of Buffalo School of Business Administration, Ms. Marklin moved to New York City with her husband Peter Marklin, an actor.
Following a number of years in the financial department of a major jewelry company in New York City and additional varied projects in the area of finance, Ms. Marklin decided to open her own business following the suggestion from an associate who had interviewed with a restaurant owner who was looking for a bookkeeper, but who had indicated that a bookkeeping service would also fill the needs of his establishment.
The business was able to start and stay solvent in the beginning years by hiring people who were interested in becoming full charge bookkeepers and offering on the job training at lower than market salaries. There were, at that time, three full time employees who received one full day of instruction and four days of bookkeeping work with supervision. The business for many years gave part time employment to neighborhood teenagers who acted as messengers and who thus had work references when going on to their next employment. The firm also has participated in a work-study program with an area High School.

Following graduation from the University of Buffalo and marriage to Irwin Fine, Rebecca Marklin Fine ("Daughter") joined the firm in 1990 and the name was changed to the present name of J.C. Marklin & Daughter, Inc. In addition to her duties as president of the corporation, she supervises the day to day processing of client data. After working with BPI software for several years she ushered in the transfer to the sophisticated accounting software we currently use-Sage Accpac.
In 2017 we added Helen Fine as Vice-President of J.C. Marklin and Daughter.
She adds to our company the fourth generation of entrepreneurs bringing a life-long exposure to the company and its standards. Trained in accounting, she comes with a knowledge of how to run and maintain a small business as well as "hands-on" experience performing within the company.
